In a powerful expression of its community focus, Abay Bank has launched a major, country-wide blood donation campaign—the flagship Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) event of its month-long 15th Anniversary celebration. The initiative actively engages the bank’s extensive network of employees, customers, and the public across its national footprint.
During the occasion, Wondifraw Tadesse, Chief Strategic Officer of Abay Bank, framed the event as an essential contribution to the nation’s health infrastructure. “The highest form of giving is the gift of life itself,” Ato Wondifraw noted. “By galvanizing over 1,000 benevolent blood donors from our staff, our valued customers, and the Abay family as a whole from every district, we are contributing directly to a critically life-saving cause. This philanthropic endeavor is the most meaningful way to honor our journey and solidify our enduring commitment to the nation’s vitality.”

Ato Wondifraw further highlighted that while the anniversary marks exceptional financial milestones—including Birr 7 billion in paid-up capital and total assets soaring to Birr 91 billion—the celebration’s primary focus is the profound relationship with the Ethiopian community that underpins the bank’s success.
The blood donation drive is a core pillar of Abay Bank’s anniversary campaign, seamlessly integrated with other social programs like large-scale tree planting. The Bank maintains a proactive stance on social duty, having disbursed more than Birr 50 million toward various community development projects in the preceding fiscal year alone, he added.

This initiative is a tangible demonstration of the Bank’s deep dedication to social welfare, reflecting its founding philosophy to serve as a Source of Greatness for the community. Since its inception on July 14, 2010, Abay Bank has celebrated a decade and a half of resilience and transformative growth, exemplified by its Birr 91 billion in assets and a comprehensive infrastructure of over 546 branches nationwide.
The vital blood donation campaign is being conducted in partnership with the Ethiopian Blood & Tissue Bank Service (EBTBS) to ensure a sustained and safe blood supply for hospitals across the country.
